Economic period & freshness

Calculation uses the latest completed observation available at evaluation time, with its actual economic period and original availability. An older period contributes to assessment only within the configured source-age limit. Newly observed missing or invalid evidence is not replaced with an earlier value. Source status uses economic-age thresholds, not a release calendar; no future release time is inferred.

THE PUBLISHED TRANSFORM

What this value measures

Civilian unemployment rate, age 16 and over

Output the original BLS seasonally adjusted civilian unemployment rate for the latest available monthly period.

The unemployment rate describes the share of the civilian labor force actively seeking work and available for work; it is not a crash probability. Monthly current revised estimates retain published missing periods and source footnotes. No gaps are interpolated and annual averages are excluded. Population-control updates and seasonal revisions can affect comparability. This rate level is descriptive context, not the Sahm recession indicator.

Research informed

The published rate describes current labor-market conditions, without estimating the probability or timing of recession or a bubble burst.

BLS Current Population Survey methodology; descriptive context with no ECO I severity thresholds.
